DIY SOS Devon Garden Transformation
At S&D Paving, we’re used to transforming outdoor spaces, but every now and then a project comes along that means far more than the work itself.
We recently had the privilege of joining the DIY SOS team and an incredible group of volunteers in Devon to help transform the home and garden of Georgie and her three children.
A Project That Meant a Great Deal to Everyone Involved
Georgie’s husband, a fellow tradesman, had been renovating their family home when he sadly passed away suddenly. The work was only partially complete, leaving Georgie and her children with a property that needed significant work.
That’s where DIY SOS and its army of volunteer tradespeople stepped in.
We travelled down to Devon to play our part in the transformation, volunteering our services and putting our landscaping and paving experience to work to help create a finished outdoor space that the family could enjoy.
Transforming the Garden
Our part of the project centred around the garden transformation.
Alongside the other volunteers, we worked to turn an unfinished outdoor area into a garden that felt like a proper extension of the family home. As with every DIY SOS project, there was a huge amount to achieve in a very short space of time, with different trades working side by side to get everything completed.
And the weather certainly didn’t make things easy. The project took place in the middle of winter and it rained virtually from the moment we arrived until the job was finished. Working outside in those conditions was challenging, but everyone involved kept going because we knew exactly who we were doing it for.
Proud to Be Part of the DIY SOS Team
One of the things that makes DIY SOS so special is seeing so many people give up their time, skills and materials to help a family when they need it most.
For us at S&D Paving, being able to contribute to the garden transformation was something we were incredibly proud to be part of.
It wasn’t simply another landscaping project. Everyone on site was working towards the same goal: to give Georgie and her children a home and garden they could enjoy together and help them move forward after an incredibly difficult period in their lives.
Despite the rain, mud and long days, it was an experience we’ll remember for a very long time.
Watch the Transformation on BBC One
If you didn’t catch the episode on BB1, you can catch the full transformation and the work carried out by the DIY SOS team and volunteers on BBC iPlayer.
It’s an emotional episode and one that we’re extremely proud to have played a small part in.
From everyone at S&D Paving, we’d also like to thank all the other tradespeople, suppliers and volunteers who came together to make the transformation possible.
