Retirement Homes Project Update: Nearing The End
For those keeping track of our progress with this retirement homes project, we are reaching the final stages and are extremely proud of what we have achieved so far. The S&D Paving team has been working in this retirement homes village in Epsom since December last year and are down to our final days on site.
In this project update post, we want to show you how far we’ve come and explain the finishing touches left to do so you can truly understand the level of commitment you will experience when working with us.
Our Last Day On Site: Road Resurfacing And Kerbs
This is a very exciting retirement homes project update because we are almost finished with the site, and have made a lot of progress for our clients. This has been one of the largest projects we’ve undertaken and a great way for the team to branch out into commercial work.
We have been working on this project since December, and it has taken us several months and the changing of seasons to reach the end stages. With only one day left on site, we have a few installations left to complete, including the remaining kerbs and resurfacing the road, so it is safe and accessible for residents.
The road will be given a new base and top coat for a complete refresh, ensuring it will withstand the test of time and complement the beautiful new surroundings installed by our team.
These installations are being left until the final possible minute, as at the time of this update, we were still waiting on the delivery of the final home. Once all homes are in place, we can begin the installation of new kerbs and paving, avoiding any early wear or tear that may occur.
Updating Our Retirement Homes Project Progress
A lot has changed on this site since the first project update we provided in the winter. Now, there is a brand new timber fence defining the parameters of the park, offering privacy and security for the residents. This warm timber creates a stunning contrast to the grey concrete bases and cool-toned footpaths we have installed throughout the residential park.
Each retirement home has its own pathway and parking bay, giving the residents some independence and privacy in their own homes. We cover all areas of the paving installation, including the kerbs and steps, which allow access into the homes.
All brickwork supporting the retirement homes and providing the patio space for residents has also been handled by our team. We have worked tirelessly on this project and aimed to deliver a complete solution for this commercial client.
No Detail Has Been Missed
Everything in this retirement homes project has been built by our team, and we essentially created this space from scratch. Alongside the paving and brickwork, we also installed fresh new turf, which creates a stunning contrast with the hardscaping and adds some colour to the environment.
Planting has been incorporated into the front of several homes, providing a unique appearance and offering seasonal appeal to the site. The future residents are free to decorate their homes and garden spaces as they see fit, and we have left plenty of room for them to do so.
Each home has its own lawn area, which acts as its private garden space. We have also installed stairs leading to the entrance of each property. The layout of these stairs is very important, as we specifically installed them on the side of the homes to maximise parking space and create a practical, yet attractive environment for the residents.
All angles have been considered throughout this project, and the finishing result is nothing short of perfection.

Final Brickwork And Finishing Touches
The main bulk of work remaining surrounds the delivery of the final retirement home. The majority of this retirement homes project is complete, as our team have already prepared for the new home to be set in place.
Our bricklayer remains on site for a few more days and has already laid out the position for the steps, which lead to this new home, by mirroring a neighbouring property. As many of the retirement homes are the same dimensions, symmetry was an aim within this project and has helped our team get ahead of the installations.
While some areas are still a work in progress, most of the work required from us has been completed. The new home is ready to be delivered, as we have covered all requirements, including creating a patio space, lawn area, and flower bed, like the others.
The final hours on site will be dedicated to the installation of the asphalt to create the main roadway through the premises.
