S&D Paving Joins DIY SOS to Help The Joshua Tree in Cheshire
At S&D Paving, we are passionate about giving back to local communities and are extremely proud to be part of a DIY SOS build once again. This time, we donated our time and expertise to The Joshua Tree in Cheshire, which supports families affected by childhood cancer.
Our team volunteered alongside hundreds of other professional traders, members of the community and the DIY SOS team to build a new support centre for this amazing cause.
In this post, we are sharing everything we did, how the project went, and what this work means to the local community. As proud supporters of BBC’s DIY SOS, with frequent appearances on the show, we knew we had to get involved with this amazing project.
Supporting Children In Need: The Joshua Tree In Cheshire
S&D Paving will appear on a special episode of DIY SOS: The Big Build For Children In Need, where the team takes on a big project for a charity that receives support from the BBC’s Children in Need.
This project took place in Cheshire, where the team created and transformed a new centre for The Joshua Tree.
The Joshua Tree is a charity that supports families affected by childhood cancer, offering practical, emotional and therapeutic support to the whole family during this difficult time. They work to support families not just during a child’s treatment, but for as long as they’re needed afterwards.
The charity provides a wide range of essential services for families affected by childhood cancer, including counselling, family activities, and educational support programmes.
This DIY SOS Big Build for Children In Need focused on creating a new support centre in Cheshire. The aim was to create a safe, supportive environment for families, allowing them to spend time together, play, and take part in therapy sessions away from hospital settings.
The DIY SOS team volunteered to help complete this important facility, transforming both the building and the outdoor areas so the charity has more space to support families in need. S&D Paving were incredibly privileged to volunteer our time and expertise to support this amazing cause.
Creating Supportive Environments For Children In Need
In total, the S&D Paving team spent nine days on site with DIY SOS and other volunteers, creating this new support centre for the Joshua Tree.
By working together with hundreds of other tradespeople, experts, and members of the community who have also donated their time, we were able to successfully transform this space into a safe, supportive environment for families in need. The short time scale of the project did cause issues in the beginning, but by working together, we were able to see success.
DIY SOS is an amazing demonstration of what can be achieved when we work together for a joint cause, and S&D Paving is extremely proud to be part of this project.
Over the course of the nine days, we were able to completely renovate the rear outdoor space of the new building. By donating our time and expertise, we were able to install a brand-new resin-bound pathway, create a large patio space, add a sunken trampoline area, and even fit an outdoor sink for the children to use while playing outside.
This new outdoor space has been designed and expertly crafted to provide children and their families a safe, fun and relaxing environment to spend time together and play outdoors.
An Incredible Team Effort: Volunteering With DIY SOS
This has been an amazing project for everyone involved, and the transformation of the Joshua Tree would not have been possible without the hundreds of tradespeople and volunteers.
Working on such a large project for this charity has been an emotional and overwhelming experience for everyone involved. The atmosphere throughout the build has been amazing and incredibly supportive, with everyone working towards a shared goal to support children and their families.
Working with DIY SOS once again has been an amazing experience for our team. It was inspiring to see how much passion and care went into every part of the project by all those involved.
This is not just about building a facility for the charity, but instead about supporting families affected by childhood cancer, a special place to find comfort, support and joy. It has been an emotional yet incredibly rewarding project, and we are incredibly proud to be part of this DIY SOS Big Build.
